Overview and Status
OLK 100
Aircraft piston engines are remarkable pieces of engineering. They play a very important role in wide range of strategic civilian and military applications. OLK Engines has developed a 4 cylinder air-cooled aircraft engine with an output of 100HP. All components were designed using the best technologies available.
Magnesium parts totalize about 15% of the total engine weight and the most significant components are: nitride 4340 forged steel crankshaft, gravity cast aluminum cylinder heads, high performance camshaft, special light weight oil pump and electronic ignition system. Several other features were designed to make the engine easier to install and maintain than most similar engines in the market.
Engines Development Tests
The performance tests to verify the rated power output were done at Pinnacle Aircraft Engines. Pinnacle is a FAA-US Federal Aviation Administration certified engine company with a modern, well calibrated aircraft engine test cell. During the performance tests the engine delivered 104 HP at rated engine speed (power corrected to sea level standard day).
Engines Development Tests
In addition to the tests performed in the USA, more than 1000 hours of development tests were performed in Brazil.
The OLK 100 engine has already flown on test aircraft in Brazil.

Engine design and development
OLK Engines built a strong team that included engineers from different disciplines in Brazil and some of the best engineers in the world 's piston aircraft engine industry.
This team designed the engine for reliability, durability, serviceability, and specific engine installation needs of unmanned and light aircraft, using modern three dimensional computer aided design tools.
A range of sophisticated analysis tools were employed to refine the initial design. These tools included performance simulation, bearing analysis, compressible flow analysis, and structural analysis.
Several FEA (finite element analysis) studies
were carried out on the engine design, in Brazil and other international engine enginering companies in the USA and Europe. These analyses were used to refine the details of the engine design.
OLK Engines has developed a strong network of suppliers, one of the most important of which is Rima Industrial that reinforced OLK Engines's team with its massive knowledge in metallurgy by producing and machining all the magnesium and aluminum cast components of the engine.
